Recap: UCF vs. BYU
Orlando, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - William Stanback's 4-yard touchdown catch in overtime helped the UCF Knights to a 31-24 win over the BYU Cougars on Thursday night.
Justin Holman threw for 326 yards on 30-of-51 passing with two touchdowns threw the air, including a score on the ground, and two interceptions for UCF (3-2), which has won three straight following back-to-back losses to open the season.
Stanback rushed for 44 yards on 22 carries with a touchdown along with his game-winning catch in overtime.
Christian Stewart, making his first-career start in place of Taysom Hill, tossed for 153 yards with three touchdowns and an interception for the Cougars (4-2), who have dropped two straight.
Shawn Moffit's 50-yard field goal as time expired in regulation was blocked by BYU's Mitch Mathews.
Stanback rolled out of the backfield and caught a 4-yard touchdown pass to give UCF the lead after the first possession of overtime.
The Cougars then took over and moved the ball inside the Knights 10, but Stewart's fourth-down pass fell incomplete as UCF held on.
Earlier, Holman's 5-yard TD run opened the scoring and Moffit added a 42-yard field goal for a 10-0 lead after the first quarter.
Trevor Samson got BYU on the board with a 32-yard kick late in the second quarter.
The Cougars ripped off 21 straight points in the third to take a 24-10 lead. Colby Pearson hauled in a 4-yard touchdown and Devin Mahina followed with touchdown receptions of 15 and 14 yards, respectively.
Stanback plunged in from two yards out late in the third, and Josh Reese raced in for a 37-yard touchdown off a pass from Holman to tie the game at 24-24 in the fourth.Game Notes
