Recap: Connecticut vs. BYU

East Hartford, CT (SportsNetwork.com) - Taysom Hill accounted for more than 400 yards of total offense as the BYU Cougars ran over the Connecticut Huskies, 35-10, in each team's season opener at Rentschler Field.

Hill completed 28-of-36 pass attempts for 308 yards and three touchdowns, while adding 97 yards and two scores on the ground for BYU (1-0). Mitch Mathews brought in five passes for 62 yards and a touchdwon and Terenn Houk tallied 58 yards and a score on four receptions.

Casey Cochran started slow, but finished with 171 yards and an interception on 17-of-31 passing for UConn (0-1), which was playing in its first game under head coach Bob Diaco. Geremy Davis tallied game-highs in receptions (seven) and receiving yards (96).

Hill had a busy first quarter. He scored on a seven-yard run with 9:56 left in the period and then threw a 26-yard touchdown pass to Mathews just over 20 seconds later.

Hill threw his second touchdown pass of the game early in the second quarter, connecting with Adam Hine from seven yards out.

UConn finally got on the scoreboard itself when Joshua Marriner scored on a one-yard touchdown run near the end of the first half.

Unfortuntaely for the Huskies, the Cougars were not done, as Hill would throw a 35-yard touchdown pass to Houk on the ensuing drive.

Following a scoreless third quarter, the Huskies chipped away at the Cougars' lead a bit when Bobby Puyol nailed a 35-yard field goal.

However, Hill slammed the door shut on any comeback chances, as he scored on a 26-yard touchdown run with just over four minutes left in regulation.

BYU had a 205-71 edge in rushing yards. UConn scored only twice in five red zone trips.
