Recap: Old Dominion vs. Louisiana Tech
Norfolk, VA (SportsNetwork.com) - Taylor Heinicke threw an eight-yard touchdown pass to David Washington in overtime to give the Old Dominion Monarchs a 30-27 upset of the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs in Conference USA action at S.B. Ballard Stadium.
Heinicke finished with 302 yards and two touchdowns on 29-of-40 passing, but he was also picked off four times for Old Dominion (5-6, 3-4 C-USA). Washington led the way with 106 yards and two scores on eight receptions.
Cody Sokol threw for 209 yards and a touchdown for Louisiana Tech (7-4, 6-1). Kenneth Dixon rushed for 106 yards and a score and Trent Taylor had 92 yards and a touchdown on five catches.
Sokol hooked up with Taylor for a 10-yard touchdown pass at the end of the first quarter.
Ray Lawry found his way into the end zone from six yards out early in the second to put the Monarchs on the board.
Touchdown runs from Dixon (seven yards) and Marlon Sheets (two) pushed the Bulldogs ahead, 21-7.
Heinicke answered with a 26-yard touchdown pass to Washington, but the Bulldogs finished the scoring in the first half with a 43-yard field goal from Kyle Fischer as time expired in the second quarter.
Satchel Ziffer kicked a 46-yard field goal midway through the third quarter and Cam Boyd scored on a 16-yard touchdown run in the fourth to even the score and force overtime.
Louisiana Tech got the ball first in overtime and settled for a 25-yard field goal from Fischer. That set up the Monarchs for the win, as Heinicke threw the game-winning score to Washington on the next drive.Game Notes
