Recap: Louisiana vs. Louisiana Tech

Lafayette, LA (SportsNetwork.com) - Cody Sokol passed for 295 yards and two touchdowns, and Kenneth Dixon rushed for 184 yards and a pair of scores to lead the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs to a decisive 48-20 victory over the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns in non-conference action at Cajun Field Saturday.

Sokol completed 22-of-33 passing in the win for Louisiana Tech (1-1). Dixon averaged 15.3 yards per carry on 12 totes in the contest, and Paul Turner hauled in a team-high seven catches for 81 yards.

Terrance Broadway completed 19-of-31 pass attempts for 150 yards, one touchdown and an interception, and added 82 rushing yards on 13 carries for Louisiana (1-1). Alonzo Harris carried the ball 12 times for 74 yards and a touchdown in the loss.

Dixon broke through in a big way for the Bulldogs late in the first quarter. The running back dashed for a 99-yard touchdown on the drive's first and only snap, giving Louisiana Tech a 7-0 lead with 4:25 left to play in the quarter. The 99-yard run set a new Louisiana Tech and Conference USA record for longest rush.

No one else got on the board until Harris ran in a six-yard touchdown for the Cajuns, knotting the score at 7-7 just six seconds into the second frame.

Sokol gave the Bulldogs the lead once again with a 16-yard scoring strike to Hunter Lee, capping a nine-play, 61-yard drive with 4:33 remaining in the half. Jonathan Barnes booted a 28-yard field goal for Louisiana Tech with 10 seconds left in the period to give the Bulldogs a 17-7 lead as the teams broke for the half.

It only took the Bulldogs 49 seconds to strike at the start of the second half, as Sterling Griffin hauled in a 78-yard touchdown reception from Sokol and took it to the end zone. It was the second of a two-play drive for Louisiana Tech, which took a 24-7 advantage.

Later in the third quarter, Xavier Woods returned a Broadway interception toss 46 yards for a touchdown to give the Bulldogs a heavy 31-7 advantage.

Dixon broke another big run early on in the fourth quarter for the Bulldogs, scampering 32 yards to the end zone to give Louisiana Tech a 38-7 advantage with 13:32 to play. Barnes tacked on a 42-yard field goal just over two minutes later for a 41-7 Bulldogs lead.

Broadway helped the Cajuns cut into the lead a bit by connecting with Effrem Reed for a 20-yard touchdown with 9:34 remaining. The Bulldogs held a 41-14 lead for just under five minutes, until Jarred Craft increased the cushion for Louisiana Tech with a two-yard touchdown run.

For good measure, Cajuns quarterback Brooks Haack connected with Gabe Fuselier on a four-yard touchdown completion as time expired to cut the Bulldogs' win to 48-20.

Louisiana Tech outgained Louisiana on offense, 533 total yards to 415, although each side registered 20 first downs. The Bulldogs had a 10-0 edge in points off turnovers as well.
