Recap: Fla Atlantic vs. TX-San Antonio
Boca Raton, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Jaquez Johnson threw for 295 yards and accounted for four touchdowns, including the game-winner in the final minute, as the Florida Atlantic Owls came back to defeat the Texas-San Antonio Roadrunners, 41-37, in a Conference USA battle at FAU Stadium.
Johnson completed 24-of-34 passes for the Owls (2-3, 1-0 C-USA) in the win. Jenson Stoshak tallied 95 yards receiving and a touchdown, while Luck Whitehead chipped in with 79 yards receiving and a score.
Tucker Carter threw for 272 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions for UTSA (1-3, 0-1) while adding two rushing touchdowns. David Glasco II chipped in with 85 yards rushing and one touchdown in the loss.
On the first play of the game, Johnson fumbled and Jens Jeters recovered for the Roadrunners. Carter ran in for a 1-yard touchdown two plays later to give UTSA a 7-0 lead.
Sean Ianno increased the lead to 10-0 when he kicked a 23-yard field goal with 9:27 left to play in the first quarter.
FAU got on the board late in the first quarter when Johnson connected with Stoshak on a 47-yard touchdown pass to cut the lead to 10-7.
UTSA pushed the lead to 17-7 when Glasco II ran in from one yard out with 8:42 left to play in the second quarter.
The Owls' Cre'von LeBlanc picked off a Carter pass and returned it 76 yards for a touchdown to cut the lead to 17-14 with just over four minutes left in the first half.
Johnson gave FAU their first lead of the game with a 24-yard touchdown run with just 22 seconds left in the half. Greg Joseph missed the extra point.
On the last play of the first half, Carter connected with Kenny Harrison on a 53-yard touchdown pass to give the Roadrunners a 24-20 lead.
Carter pushed the UTSA lead to 31-20 when he ran in from three yards out with 8:16 left in the third quarter.
Five minutes later, the Owls cut the lead to seven when Tony Moore ran in a touchdown from two yard out.
Ianno connected on two field goals in the fourth quarter, one from 53 yards out and the other from 27 yards, to give the Roadrunners a 37-27 lead.
With 4:10 left to play in the game, Johnson threw a 21-yard touchdown pass to Woodhead to cut the lead to three points.
Johnson connected with Nate Terry on a 15-yard touchdown pass with 20 seconds left to give FAU a 41-37 victory.
