Recap: Utah vs. Washington St

Salt Lake City, UT (SportsNetwork.com) - Connor Halliday threw for 417 yards and four touchdowns, as the Washington State Cougars overcame a double-digit fourth-quarter deficit to beat the Utah Utes, 28-27, in a Pac-12 Conference tilt at Rice-Eccles Stadium.

Halliday completed 39-of-61 pass attempts and tossed a pair of interceptions for Washington State (2-3, 1-1 Pac-12). River Cracraft hauled in nine passes for 126 yards, while Vince Mayle (eight receptions, 120 yards) and Dom Williams (four receptions, 73 yards) also benefited from Halliday's big night with a pair of touchdown catches apiece.

For Utah (3-1, 0-1), Devontae Booker carried the ball 24 times for 178 yards and a touchdown. Travis Wilson completed less than 50 percent of his throws (18-of-38) for 165 yards.

All three phases of the game contributed to the scoring act for Utah in the first quarter. First the defense got involved when Eric Rowe picked off a Halliday pass and returned it 11 yards for a touchdown.

After Utah forced a Washington State three-and-out, Kaelin Clay returned the punt 58 yards for a touchdown. The Utes made it 21-0 later in the frame when Booker ripped off a 76-yard touchdown run.

The Cougars got on the board midway through the second quarter when Halliday connected with Williams on a 35-yard touchdown pass.

Utah added to its lead just prior to intermission when Andy Phillips knocked through a 46-yard field goal in the waning seconds of the half.

The Cougars chipped away at their deficit midway through the third quarter, with Halliday tossing an 11-yard touchdown to Mayle.

Phillips added a 43-yard field goal for Utah early in the fourth quarter.

Washington State brought its deficit to just one score midway through the fourth when Halliday hooked up with Williams on a 20-yard scoring strike.

The Cougars took their first lead of the game with just under five minutes to play when Halliday found Mayle for an 81-yard touchdown.

Utah turned the ball over on down twice on its final two drives.

Washington State overcame a game-high three turnovers by going 10-of-20 on third down.
