Recap: Rutgers vs. Tulane

Piscataway, NJ (SportsNetwork.com) - Gary Nova threw for four touchdowns in a record-setting performance, as the Rutgers Scarlet Knights earned a 31-6 win over Tulane in a non-conference tilt at High Point Solutions Stadium.

With his four TD passes, Nova broke Mike Teel's school record for career touchdown passes and now has 61. Three of those scores went to his former high school teammate Leonte Carroo, who finished with 140 yards on seven catches for the Scarlet Knights (4-1).

Sherman Badie led the Green Wave (1-4) with 108 yards and a touchdown on 12 rushes. Three Tulane quarterbacks combined to complete 18-of-29 passes for only 152 yards in the loss.

Rutgers grabbed a 7-0 lead midway through the first quarter on a three-yard pass from Nova to Carroo. That duo hooked up again for a 25-yard scoring strike at the 2:02 mark of the opening frame to make it a 14-0 game.

Nova pushed the Rutgers lead to 21-0 on a 93-yard touchdown pass to Andrew Turzilli with 9:44 remaining in the second quarter.

Tulane got on the board thanks to an 86-yard touchdown run by Badie with 5:08 to play in the half, although the Green Wave missed the PAT.

The Scarlet Knights extended the margin to 24-6 on a 32-yard field goal by Kyle Federico at the 3:26 mark of the third quarter.

Nova and Carroo connected for their third TD hookup of the day on a six-yard pass and catch midway through the fourth quarter, capping a 12-play, 80-yard drive.

Rutgers needs only two more wins to become bowl eligible in its first season as a Big Ten Conference member.
