Recap: Purdue vs. Central Mich

West Lafayette, IN (SportsNetwork.com) - Thomas Rawls ran for 155 yards and two touchdowns as he helped the Central Michigan Chippewas knock off the Purdue Boilermakers, 38-17, at Ross-Ade Stadium.

Rawls had 31 of Central Michigan's (2-0) 43 carries. Cooper Rush threw for 172 yards and two scores, as well as an interception, on 11-of-16 passing. Anthony Rice turned his two receptions into a game-high of 66 yards along with a touchdown.

Danny Etling threw for 126 yards on 17-of-32 passing for Purdue (1-1), but he was also intercepted twice. Raheem Mostert was the team's top rusher and receiver, totaling 53 yards on 19 carries and 31 yards on five receptions.

Brandon Greer returned an interception 57 yards for a touchdown and Rush threw a 65-yard touchdown pass to Rice to give Central Michigan a 14-0 lead midway through the first quarter.

The Boilermakers finally answered early in the second frame, with Etling scoring on a four-yard touchdown run.

However, just over two minutes later the Chippewas found the end zone, with Rawls recording a two-yard touchdown run.

After halftime Paul Griggs connected on a 42-yard field goal to pull Purdue to within 21-10.

The Chippewas didn't waste time in responding, with Rush throwing an 11-yard touchdown pass to Ben McCord less than four minutes later.

Brian Eavey's 23-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter pushed the Chippewas' lead to 31-10.

Austin Appleby, who replaced Etling late in the game, threw a 23-yard touchdown pass to Danny Anthrop midway through the fourth quarter, but it wasn't enough, especially after Rawls scored on a 16-yard touchdown run later in the period.

The win was just the sixth in 29 attempts against current Big Ten teams for Central Michigan.
