Recap: Minnesota vs. San Jose St

Minneapolis, MN (SportsNetwork.com) - David Cobb rushed for 207 yards and Chris Streveler had 161 yards on the ground, as the Minnesota Golden Gophers downed the San Jose State Spartans, 24-7, in a non-conference clash at TCF Bank Stadium.

The game was delayed in the fourth quarter for just over an hour due to thunderstorms.

Cobb did his damage on 34 carries and had two touchdowns while Streveler racked up 18 attempts and a score in a busy rushing day for Minnesota (3-1). Streveler's impressive performance on the ground made up for a poor showing in the passing game (1-of-7, seven yards, INT).

For SJSU (1-2), Blake Jurich completed 14-of-29 passes for 161 yards with a touchdown an two interceptions, with Tyler Winston (nine receptions, 94 yards, TD) acting as his primary target.

The Gophers scored on their first drive on a 38-yard field goal by Ryan Santoso, and they went up 10-0 later in the opening quarter on a nine-yard touchdown run by Cobb.

SJSU chipped away at its deficit with under a minute to play in the first quarter when Jurich hooked up with Winston on a 27-yard touchdown toss.

The Spartans had possession deep in their own territory with under a minute left in the first half before Jurich was picked off by Eric Murray to set up the Gophers in great field possession. Minnesota made SJSU pay of its mistake when Streveler ran in a one-yard touchdown to put the home team up 17-7 heading into intermission.

The teams went scoreless in the third quarter, with each side missing a long field goal attempt and SJSU fumbling the ball away deep in Minnesota territory.

The Gophers put the game out of reach following the weather delay, with Cobb rushing in a 16-yard score with 3:21 left in the fourth.

Minnesota won despite committing 10 penalties, while SJSU went unpenalized.
