With five minutes left in the first half, the Wolverines' Willie Henry picked off the first pass attempt from Thompson and returned it seven yards for the score, knotting the game back up at 10-10.

As time expired for the first half, Phillips broke the tie, converting a 38- yard field goal to cap a 16-play, 54-yard drive by the visitors..

At the beginning of the third quarter, Anderson caught a 28-yard touchdown pass from Wilson, putting the Utes ahead 20-10.

Phillips connected on two straight field goals at the beginning of the fourth quarter, the first from 48 yards and the second, even longer, a 50-yard effort. Those extended the Utes' lead to 26-10.

The game was delayed in the middle of the fourth quarter for more than two hours due to severe rain and lightning strikes in the area. Neither team added to the scoreboard when action finally resumed.

Despite finishing with 308 yards of total offense, compared to 286 for the Utes, Michigan's four turnovers greatly hindered its offensive production.
