Recap: Illinois vs. Penn State
Champaign, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - David Reisner 36-yard field goal in the final seconds to lift the Illinois Fighting Illini to a 16-14 win over the Penn State Nittany Lions in Big Ten action at Memorial Stadium.
Reilly O'Toole threw for 157 yards and a touchdown on 18-of-25 passing and Wes Lunt tallied 58 yards while completing 8-of-17 pass attempts for Illinois (5-6, 2-5 Big Ten). Donovonn Young rushed for 62 yards on 14 carries and Mike Dudek had 115 yards on 11 receptions.
Christian Hackenberg threw for only 93 yards and a touchdown on 8-of-16 passing for Penn State (6-5, 2-5). Akeel Lynch picked up 137 yards and a touchdown on 28 carries.
Hackenberg threw an 18-yard touchdown pass to Chris Godwin midway through the first quarter.
O'Toole responded just before the break with a one-yard touchdown pass to Matt LaCosse.
The Illini pulled ahead, 10-7, on a 28-yard field goal from Reisner early in the third quarter.
Penn State went back on top in the first few minutes of the fourth quarter on a 47-yard touchdown run by Lynch.
However, Illinois managed to squeeze out the victory with Reisner drilling a 25-yard field goal midway through the last period and the game-winning 36-yard effort with eight seconds to play.
Illinois converted on only 2-of-16 third down tries and scored one touchdown in four red zone trips.Game Notes
