El Paso, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Davis Webb threw three touchdown passes, each one to Bradley Marquez, as the Texas Tech Red Raiders came out on top in a back-and-forth battle with the Texas-El Paso Miners at the Sun Bowl, 30-26.

Webb completed 17-of-31 passes for 278 yards and zero interceptions for Texas Tech (2-0), and Marquez's (33 yards) only three receptions on the night went for touchdowns. Justin Stockton made the most of his eight carries, finishing with 135 yards and a score.

Jakeem Grant reeled in eight passes for 150 yards for the Red Raiders.

Jameill Showers struggled under center for UTEP (1-1), going a mere 9-of-25 on passing attempts for 116 yards. Aaron Jones was the Miners' top threat, turning 23 carries into 147 yards and two touchdowns.

After a lengthy 11-play, 67-yard drive to open the game, UTEP got off to a 3-0 lead early in the first quarter on a 22-yard field goal by Jay Mattox. The kicker added another short field goal (27 yards) later in the quarter.

Texas Tech tied the score at 6-6 early in the second after Stockton ripped off a 75-yard touchdown run, but it failed to take the lead after the ensuing two- point conversion attempt was no good.

The Red Raiders took the lead four minutes later on a 28-yard field goal by Ryan Bustin.

UTEP regained the lead following a 19-yard touchdown run by Jones, but Texas Tech went back on top, 16-13, less than three minutes before intermission on an 11-yard scoring strike from Webb to Marquez.

Webb and Marquez hooked up again midway through the third quarter, this time from 13 yards away, to give Texas Tech a 10-point lead, 23-13.

The Miners countered with a 13-play, 75-yard drive that lasted more than six minutes. Jeremiah Laufasa capped off the drive with a 24-yard touchdown run, but after a missed extra point, UTEP trailed by four, 23-19.

Pinned deep in its own territory, UTEP orchestrated an 11-play, 88-yard drive, resulting in a nine-yard touchdown rush by Jones to give it a three-point lead, 26-23, with just over five minutes to play.

The Red Raiders countered with a lengthy drive of their own, traveling 75 yards in seven plays, and the Webb-to-Marquez combination connected for a third time from nine yards out to put the visitors ahead, 30-26, with 2:32 to play.

UTEP turned the ball over on downs on its final opportunity.

Texas Tech gained 504 yards to UTEP's 393 despite owning a mere 21 minutes of possession time.
