Recap: Kansas vs. Central Mich
Lawrence, KS (SportsNetwork.com) - Montell Cozart tossed a pair of fourth- quarter touchdown passes to lead the Kansas Jayhawks to a 24-10 victory over the Central Michigan Chippewas in a non-conference bout at Memorial Stadium.
Cozart completed 23-of-33 passes for 226 yards with an interception to go with his two scores for Kansas (2-1). Tony Pierson had just three carries but finished with 77 yards and a touchdown. Jimmay Mundine (six receptions, 67 yards) and Justin McCay (two receptions, 66 yards, TD) both had solid receiving days.
For CMU (2-2), Cooper Rush threw for 178 yards and an interception on 18-of-26 passing. Martez Walker tallied 56 yards and a score on 10 carries.
Kansas went on top on the very first play from scrimmage with Pierson ripping off a 74-yard touchdown run.
Action remained quiet until the 6:14 mark of the second quarter when Brian Eavey knocked through a 37-yard field goal for CMU.
Neither team was able to cross midfield in the remaining minutes prior to halftime, as the Jayhawks went into intermission nursing a 7-3 lead.
The Jayhawks added to their advantage at the 9:52 mark of the third quarter on a 27-yard field goal by Matthew Wyman.
The Chippewas tied things up, 10-10, on their ensuing possession by marching 75 yards in seven plays, with Walker punctuating the drive with an 18-yard touchdown run.
Kansas struck big early in the fourth quarter, taking the lead on a 60-yard touchdown pass from Cozart to McCay.
The Jayhawks put the game away with under two minutes remaining when Cozart connected with Corey Avery on a 30-yard scoring strike.
CMU was held to just 279 yards of offense and converted only 3-of-12 third downs.Game Notes
