Recap: Central Mich vs. Syracuse
Mount Pleasant, MI (SportsNetwork.com) - Terrel Hunt threw for a touchdown and ran for three more, as the Syracuse Orange routed Central Michigan, 40-3, in non-conference action from Kelly/Shorts Stadium.
Hunt had 175 yards passing to go along with 92 on the ground for the Orange (2-0), who were coming off a bye last weekend following their season-opening win over FCS school Villanova a week earlier. Adonis Ameen-Moore finished with 106 yards on nine carries in the victory.
Cooper Rush threw for 183 yards on 18-of-34 passing as the Chippewas (2-1) suffered their first loss after a 2-0 start. Rush was also sacked five times.
Chippewas kicker Brian Eavey accounted for the only points of the first quarter with a 26-yard field goal that capped a seven-minute, game-opening drive.
It was all Syracuse from there. After Ryan Norton tied the score at 3-3 with a 23-yard field goal early in the second quarter, the Orange took a 10-3 lead at the 10:43 mark when Marqez Hodge scooped up a loose ball and returned it 36 yards for a score. Eric Crume got into the backfield on the play and sacked Rush, forcing the fumble.
Syracuse extended its lead to 17-3 on a four-yard pass from Hunt to Brisly Estime with just under two minutes to play in the half.
The Orange defense came up with another big play in the opening minutes of the second half, as Cameron Lynch came free and dropped Rush in the end zone for a safety.
Hunt pushed the lead to 33-3 with third-quarter touchdown runs of one and three yards. He capped the scoring with another one-yard TD in the final minute of the fourth quarter.
