Recap: USC vs. Notre Dame
Los Angeles, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Cody Kessler threw for 372 yards and six touchdowns as the USC Trojans defeated the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, 49-14, in a non-conference battle at the Los Angeles Coliseum.
Kessler connected on 32-of-40 passes for the Trojans (8-4). Justin Davis rushed for 81 yards a touchdown, while Nelson Agholor added 120 yards and a score on 12 receptions. George Farmer contributed 85 yards receiving and two touchdowns and Javorius Allen racked up 93 yards on the ground.
As for the Irish (7-5), Malik Zaire threw for 170 yards and rushed for a touchdown after replacing Everett Golson who threw for 75 yards and one interception. Greg Bryant rushed for 79 yards and one touchdown.
In the first quarter, the Trojans jumped out to a 21-0 lead when Kessler connected on three touchdown passes. The first was to Farmer from 48 yards out. The second was a 16-yard touchdown to Adoree' Jackson. The third was a 31-yard pass to Farmer with 43 seconds left in the first quarter.
In the second quarter, Kessler threw a six-yard touchdown pass to Darreus Rogers to give USC a 28-0 lead with 10:51 left to play in the half. Then Kessler connected with Agholor on a 14-yard touchdown pass with 5:15 left in the half to give the Trojans a 35-0 lead.
The Fighting Irish did get on the board when Zaire rushed for a 11-yard touchdown with 4:11 left in the half.
With 11:19 left to play in the third quarter, Kessler threw a nine-yard touchdown pass to Randall Telfer to give USC a 42-7 lead. Then with just over six minutes left in the third quarter, Davis rushed for a 16-yard touchdown as the Trojans continued to pile on.
With under three minutes left in the third, Bryant rushed for a one-yard touchdown to finish the scoring.
In the loss, Notre Dame yielded six touchdown passes for the first time in school history.Game Notes
