Recap: North Carolina vs. San Diego St

Chapel Hill, NC (SportsNetwork.com) - Elijah Hood ran for the go-ahead touchdown in the fourth quarter and Tim Scott's interception in the end zone sealed a 31-27 come-from-behind victory for 21st-ranked North Carolina over San Diego State.

Marquise Williams threw two touchdown passes for the Tar Heels (2-0), who overcame a 10-point fourth-quarter deficit.

Brian Walker picked off San Diego State quarterback Quinn Kaehler twice and returned one 100 yards for the game's opening touchdown. His second led to a 23-yard Nick Weiler field goal that gave North Carolina a 31-27 lead with four minutes remaining.

Kaehler finished with 341 yards and a touchdown, while Donnel Pumphrey amassed 100 yards and two scores on 17 carries for the Aztecs (1-1).

Donald Hageman kicked a 40-yard field goal to give San Diego State a 24-14 lead 57 seconds into the fourth quarter.

Williams quickly answered with a 91-yard touchdown pass to Mack Hollins on North Carolina's next offensive play.

After Hageman nailed a 40-yarder, Hood capped an 80-yard drive with his short TD run.

Kaehler shook off the second Walker interception to lead the Aztecs deep into North Carolina territory, but threw the costly interception on 1st-and-goal from the 3-yard line inside the final minute.

San Diego State was driving to begin the second quarter, but the promising drive was derailed by Walker's pick-6.

Kaehler, however, came right back with a 56-yard TD pass to Eric Judge.

Mitch Trubisky then threw an interception for North Carolina, and Pumphrey ran for a 12-yard score to give San Diego State the a 14-7 lead at halftime.

Pumphrey scored on a 3-yard run after the Tar Heels' Thomas Moore missed a 41- yard field goal on the first drive of the third quarter.

Williams hit Quinshad Davis for an 11-yard scoring strike with 4:40 left in the third.

Game Notes

The Tar Heels are off to their first 2-0 start since winning three straight to open the 2011 campaign ... North Carolina beat San Diego State in the 1998 Las Vegas Bowl, the only prior meeting between the two schools ... The Aztecs fell to 7-62 all-time against teams in the AP Top 25.
