Recap: Western Mich vs. Kent State

Kalamazoo, MI (Sports Network) - Trayion Durham ran for 154 yards and two touchdowns as the Kent State Golden Flashes downed the Western Michigan Broncos, 32-14, in Mid-American Conference action at Waldo Stadium.

For the Golden Flashes (2-3,1-1 MAC), Colin Reardon threw for 176 yards on 17- of-30 passing with a touchdown and an interception while tacking on 44 rushing yards. Dri Archer ran for 73 yards on just six carries and caught four passes for 48 yards and a score. Tyshon Goode caught five passes for 57 yards to lead the team.

Tyler Van Tubbergen led the Broncos (0-5, 0-1) with 159 yards passing, completing 11-of-23 with a touchdown and two interceptions. Brian Fields ran the ball 19 times for 106 yards and a score, while Kendrick Roberts caught four balls for 73 yards and Josh Schaffer also snagged four catches for 39 yards and a touchdown.

Kent State was the first team to put points on the board late in the first quarter with a five-play, 47-yard drive, capped off by a Durham rush for five yards and the score. The Golden Flashes were set up with excellent field position at the WMU 47-yard line after the Broncos were forced to punt from inside their own 10-yard line.

After forcing a punt on the next WMU series, Kent State again had excellent field position, but Reardon was sacked and fumbled the ball, which was recovered by the Broncos at the Kent State 26-yard line. Three plays later, Fields ran it in from two yards out to knot the score at 7-7 with just under nine minutes to play in the half.

The Golden Flashes answered with a 65-yard scoring drive that took eight plays and ended with a touchdown pass from Reardon to Archer for 31 yards. After they successfully converted the two-point play, the Golden Flashes were back in front heading into halftime, 15-7.

The Broncos struck first after the break, moving the ball 88 yards in just six plays, capped off by a Van Tubbergen pass to Schaffer for 12 yards and the touchdown.

The Golden Flashes ended the game with 17 unanswered points. They tacked on touchdown in the third quarter on a Durham one-yard run. Reardon went on to connect with Casey Pierce from seven yards out with 7:26 remaining in regulation. The final points came late in the fourth quarter, when Anthony Melchiori booted a field goal from 40 yards out to set the final score.

Kent State finished the game with 276 yards rushing to only 151 by WMU. The Golden Flashes were very efficient on third down, converting 9-of-16, while the Bronco were just 4-of-12 on those opportunities.
