Recap: Duke vs. Troy
Durham, NC (Sports Network) - Brandon Connette threw for 324 yards and three touchdowns as he led the Duke Blue Devils over the Troy Trojans, 38-31, in non-conference action at Wallace Wade Stadium.
Connette completed 20-of-28 passes and threw an interception but added 55 yards and two touchdowns on the ground for Duke (3-2), which broke out of a two-game slump. Josh Snead rushed for 108 yards on 11 carries while Jamison Crowder managed 149 yards receiving and a touchdown on seven receptions.
Troy (2-3) was led by Corey Robinson who was 35-of-45 for 354 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. Jordan Chunn rushed for 33 yards and two scores on 11 carries while Brandon Burks added 68 yards on 16 carries. Robinson's key targets were Bryan Holmes and Eric Thomas. Holmes had seven catches for 82 yards while Thomas managed nine catches for 77 yards and a touchdown. The Trojans have lost three in a row.
Troy struck first as Chunn took in a five-yard touchdown run to cap off a 12- play, 66-yard drive. Duke responded with three unanswered touchdowns as Connette threw touchdown passes to Max McCaffrey (seven yards) and Crowder (60 yards) while also running in for a three-yard score.
Trailing 21-7, the Trojans managed to put together a six-play, 75-yard drive which resulted in a 12-yard touchdown pass from Robinson to Thomas. The Blue Devils answered back with an impressive drive of their own and saw Connette find Jela Duncan for a nine-yard touchdown pass.
To make it a one score game with under three minutes left in the half, the Trojans capped off a 14-play, 83-yard drive with a one-yard touchdown run from Chunn. Troy trailed 28-21 at the break.
Troy opened the second half strong and tied the game at 28-28 after a 40-yard touchdown connection from Robinson to Wilson Van Hooser. Duke responded quickly with a four-yard touchdown run from Connette to put the Blue Devils back on top 35-28.
In the fourth quarter, Will Scott managed a 37-yard field goal for Troy and Ross Martin hit a 34-yard field goal for Duke to make the final score 38-31 in favor of the Blue Devils.
Neither side managed to gain a noticeable advantage over the other as Duke gained 514 yards of total offense and Troy racked up 512 offensive yards.Game Notes
