Recap: Indiana vs. Purdue
Bloomington, IN (SportsNetwork.com) - Tre Roberson threw for a career-high six touchdowns as the Indiana Hoosiers beat the Purdue Boilermakers, 56-36, in to capture the Old Oaken Bucket during a Big Ten Contest at Memorial Stadium.
Roberson went 25-of37 through the air for 273 yards and two interceptions in addition to his scores for Indiana (5-7, 3-5 Big Ten). Roberson also led the team in rushing with 154 yards on 21 carries. Cody Latimer had seven receptions for 110 yards and a touchdown.
Danny Etling went 33-of-49 passing for 485 yards and four touchdowns for Purdue (1-11, 0-8). Danny Anthrop had 151 yards and a touchdown on five catches. DeAngelo Yancey brought in 11 catches for 125 yards and a touchdown.
The Hoosiers scored on the first drive of the game as Stephen Houston had a 53-yard touchdown run. Roberson added to the lead when he completed a two-yard touchdown pass to Shane Wynn with 7:24 remaining in the first stanza.
Purdue answered back on a one-yard touchdown pass from Etling to Justin Sinz. After a failed extra-point attempt, the score was 14-6 with 12:36 before the break.
Indiana countered with a 14-yard Houston touchdown run with 9:45 remaining.
Houston's score was followed by a 36-yard field goal from Paul Griggs for the visitors.
However Roberson connected with Wynn on a four-yard touchdown pass and with 44 seconds left Roberson completed a 27-yard touchdown pass to Latimer.
Indiana scored 14 straight points coming out of the half. Roberson threw a 17- yard touchdown pass to Wynn and then threw a two-yard touchdown to Ted Bolser to make the score 49-9.
Etling connected with Yancey on a 10-yard touchdown pass to make it 49-16 entering the fourth quarter.
Brandon Cottom scored on a one-yard rush with 14:18 left in the game for the Boilermakers and then Etling threw an 80-yard touchdown pass to Danny Anthrop to make the score 49-30.
A six-yard Roberson pass to Kofi Hughes led to a touchdown put the Hoosiers up 56-30 with 3:21 to go.
Etling answered back with a seven-yard touchdown pass to Cameron Posey but The two-point conversion by Etling failed and left the score at 56-36.
Purdue came into Saturday averaging a 13 points per game and 261.7 yards per game. Against Indiana they scored 36 and had 516 yards of total offense. Indiana reclaimed the Old Oaken Bucket after having lost the previous two seasons.Game Notes
