Recap: Ohio U vs. North Texas
Athens, OH (Sports Network) - Tyler Tettleton threw for 239 yards and a pair of touchdowns to lead the Ohio University Bobcats to a 27-21 victory over the North Texas Mean Green in non-conference action at Peden Stadium.
Tettleton completed 19-of-30 pass attempts but was also intercepted twice for Ohio (1-1) which has won 10 of its last 12 non-league matchups. Chase Cochran collected six passes for 103 yards and a touchdown and Donte Foster had seven catches for 59 yards. Ryan Boykin rushed for 93 yards on 19 attempts while Beau Blankenship had 83 yards on 14 carries.
Derek Thompson led North Texas (1-1) with 195 yards and two scores through the air on 19-of-29 passing. However Thompson was also intercepted twice. Darnell Smith recorded a game-high nine receptions for 89 yards and a touchdown while Carlos Harris had 55 yards and a score on three receptions.
Ohio scored on its first play from scrimmage when Tettleton completed a 75- yard touchdown pass to Cochran.
A three-yard touchdown run from Antoine Jimmerson later in the quarter allowed North Texas to even the score at 7-7.
Tettleton recorded his second touchdown pass of the game when he connected with Boykin for a 10-yard strike early in the second quarter.
Ohio's defense got in on the scoring on the Mean Green's next drive when Jovon Johnson intercepted a pass from Thompson and returned it 42 yards for a touchdown.
North Texas got back to within a touchdown late in the third quarter when Thompson completed a 31-yard touchdown pass to Harris.
Early in the fourth quarter the Mean Green would tie the contest at 21-21 with a six-yard touchdown pass from Thompson to Smith.
Matt Green kicked a 38-yard field goal with just over eight minutes left in regulation as the Bobcats pulled ahead, 24-21. Green would add a 22-yard field goal with just over a minute to play to extend the Bobcats' lead.
After Green's second field goal of the quarter the Mean Green took over with 1:23 to play. However on the second play of the ensuing drive Thompson was intercepted by Xavier Hughes, sealing the win for Ohio.Game Notes
