Recap: Utah State vs. BYU

Logan, UT (Sports Network) - Mitch Mathews had 112 receiving yards and hauled in all three of Taysom Hill's touchdown passes, as BYU cruised past Utah State 31-14 on Friday night.

Mathews had five catches and Hill had 278 yards through the air on 17-of-31 passing with an interception for BYU (3-2), which has captured an impressive 13 wins in its last 14 matchups with the Aggies.

Utah State (3-3) may have inherited an even bigger loss depending on what tests conclude on the knee of star quarterback Chuckie Keeton.

With the Aggies trailing by three late in the first quarter, Keeton tried scrambling for a first down on 3rd-and-15. He came up short and landed awkwardly on his left leg. He left the game and did not return.

Craig Harrison filled in for Keeton and fumbled on his first possession, and then again early in the fourth.

Prior to his late touchdown throw to Ronald Butler, Utah State had eight possessions end in punts, another conclude in a blocked field goal and series end in a turnover on downs with Harrison behind center.

BYU took the lead 10 seconds into the game, as Kyle Van Noy intercepted the first play from scrimmage on a short throw from Keeton and cruised 17 yards into the end zone untouched.

Justin Sorensen capped a 13-play march later in the first with a 27-yard field goal to put the Cougars back in front, and they went on to score three straight touchdowns, all on throws from Hill to Mathews.

The duo first hooked up for a score early on in the second on a 30-yard completion, and Mathews concluded a 10-play drive on BYU's opening possession of the third by hauling in a fade from Hill on the left side of the end zone.

Mathews then pushed the spread to 31-7 in favor of the Cougars, catching a pass from Hill and sprinting 43 yards for a touchdown.

Before the Cougars ran off 24 straight points, the Aggies were tied at 7-7. Their score came on a short field following a Hill fumble on BYU's first offensive possession, and Keeton hooked up with Travis Van Leeuwen for a 7- yard touchdown three plays later. Keeton ended 4-for-10 for 26 yards.
