Recap: Central Mich vs. Akron
Mount Pleasant, MI (Sports Network) - Ryan Radcliff completed 15-of-25 passes for 180 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Central Michigan Chippewas over the Akron Zips, 35-15, in a Mid-American Conference game at Kelly/Shorts Stadium.
Zurlon Tipton had a big game for Central Michigan (3-5, 1-3 MAC), posting 243 yards rushing and three touchdowns on 37 carries. Radcliff's favorite target was Titus Davis who caught four passes for 112 yards and two touchdowns.
Akron (1-8, 0-5), a loser of six straight, was paced by quarterback Dalton Williams who completed 31-of-51 passes for 329 yards and two touchdowns with two interceptions. Receiver Jerrod Dillard caught seven passes for 91 yards and one touchdown.
The Chippewas scored first when Tipton took the second snap from scrimmage and raced for a 72-yard touchdown.
Akron tied the score up when Williams connected with Dee Frieson on a nine yard strike.
On the next possession, Radcliff connected with Davis for a 27-yard touchdown, capping a nine-play, 75-yard drive.
Both teams failed to score in the second quarter and the half ended with CMU leading, 14-7.
The Chippewas scored on the first drive of the second half when Tipton crossed the goal line for a five-yard touchdown. Shortly thereafter CMU scored again when Radcliff connected with Davis for a 36-yard touchdown pass play and extend the lead to 21 points.
In the fourth quarter, Williams connected with Dillard for a 10-yard touchdown pass at the 14:30 mark, but late in the period the Chippewas put the game away when Tipton scored his third touchdown of the day on a six-yard run to make the final score, 35-14.
