Recap: Weber State vs. Northern Colorado
Ogden, UT (SportsNetwork.com) - Davion Berry led the way with 15 points and five assists as the top-seeded Weber State Wildcats edged the sixth-seeded Northern Colorado Bears in overtime, 66-63, in the Big Sky Conference semifinals at the Dee Events Center.
For the Wildcats (18-11), Jordan Richardson added 13 points, Kyle Tresnak scored 11 and Richaud Gittens chipped in with 10 points. The Wildcats will advance to face North Dakota in the Big Sky championship game Saturday.
Derrick Barden led all scorers with 21 points for the Bears (18-13), while Tate Unruh scored 12 and Cody McDavis finished with 10 points.
Shooting 46.2 percent from the field, including 2-of-8 from beyond the arc, Weber State took a 27-24 advantage into halftime. Northern Colorado shot 44.4 percent in the half and missed all three of its 3-point tries.
The Bears heated up after intermission, connecting on 59.1 percent of their field goal tries. The Wildcats shot just 41.7 percent but did hit on 4-of-9 from 3-point range. Trailing by seven, 55-48, with just under four minutes to play, the Bears held the Wildcats scoreless down the stretch and scored the final seven points of regulation, tying the game on a 3-pointer by Barden with 1:51 to play. Both teams had chances to take the lead in the final seconds but were unsuccessful, as they went into overtime knotted at 55-55.
The Wildcats opened the extra session on an 8-1 run to take a seven-point lead with two minutes left in overtime. The Bears battled back to get within one with 42 seconds on the clock, but the Wildcats were able to hold on down the stretch to get the win and advance to the title game.
Weber State had the edge in points in the paint, 30-26. The teams were knotted in rebounds for the game at 31-31.Game Notes
