Recap: Oregon State vs. George Mason

Honolulu, HI (SportsNetwork.com) - Roberto Nelson scored eight of his 17 points in the last 43 seconds Monday as Oregon State held on to beat George Mason 58-54 at the Diamond Head Classic.

Devon Collier added 15 points for the Beavers (7-3), who will play Hawaii on Wednesday in a fifth-place game on Christmas Day.

They were coming off a loss to Akron on Sunday in a game attended by President Barack Obama and the first family, who are on vacation in Hawaii. Oregon State coach Craig Robinson is the older brother of First Lady Michelle Obama.

Bryon Allen had 15 points and Patrick Holloway had 12 to lead George Mason (5-6), which has lost four in a row and six of its last seven, including Sunday's game against Iowa State in Honolulu.

The Patriots led 29-28 at halftime and were up by four points with 12 1/2 minutes left.

The game was tied three times after that before Jalen Jenkins gave George Mason its last lead with a free throw with 2:12 left.

Collier's layup at the other end gave the Beavers the lead and Nelson hit a jumper with 43 seconds left to make it 52-49. Nelson scored his last six points on foul shots before Allen knocked down a 3-pointer at the buzzer to trip the winning margin to four.

George Mason will play Saint Mary's on Wednesday.
