Recap: Temple vs. Georgia
Charleston, SC (SportsNetwork.com) - Dalton Pepper scored a game-high 22 points as he led the Temple Owls over the Georgia Bulldogs, 83-81, in a consolation bout in the Charleston Classic at TD Arena.
Pepper shot 8-of-15 from the floor and hit five 3-pointers for Temple (2-3), which broke out of a three-game slump. Pepper added six rebounds and five assists while Will Cummings had 17 points, Quenton DeCosey 15, and Daniel Dingle 12 points. The Owls will face UAB for fifth place in the event on Sunday.
Georgia (1-3) was led by a 21-point performance from Kenny Gaines, who shot 8- of-12 from the floor. Charles Mann contributed 19 points while shooting a perfect 9-of-9 at the free-throw line. Marcus Thornton and Nemanja Djurisic added 10 points for the Bulldogs who will face Nebraska for seventh place on Sunday.
The Owls held a solid 45-32 lead at halftime after shooting over 60.0 percent from the field in the first half, including 9-of-14 (.643) behind the 3-point line.
Georgia came rumbling back in the second half, shooting just under 60.0 percent from the floor and holding Temple to just 35.7 percent. The Bulldogs took the lead when Mann made a layup with 18 seconds left to put Georgia on top 81-80. With seven seconds remaining, Cummings drilled a 3-pointer for the Owls to put Temple back in front. After a potential game-winning 3-point attempt from Donte' Williams missed the mark, Temple took the victory.
Temple shot an outstanding 55.0 percent from 3-point range as the Owls knocked down 11 3-pointers.Game Notes
