Recap: Citadel vs. West Alabama
Towson, MD (SportsNetwork.com) - Cordell Pope had a double-double of 23 points and 10 rebounds as the West Alabama Tigers defeated The Citadel Bulldogs 90-77 in the conclusion of the Battle 4 Atlantis Mainland tournament at SECU Arena.
Aaron Cobb scored 19 points in just 22 minutes for the Tigers (3-2). Desmond Raymond scored 18 points and had four assists while Sandy Underwood chipped in 13 points and three steals.
The Citadel (3-6) was led by Brian White and his 24 points and nine boards. Matt Van Scyoc scored 12 points while Marshall Harris III added 10 points and five assists.
The Tigers shot 52.8 percent on field goal attempts and 9-of-16 from 3-point range in the first half. Those efforts, along with the Bulldogs only shooting 31.8 percent from the floor, helped West Alabama take a 51-28 lead into the break.
The Citadel came out of the half shooting better but were unable to get back into the game. The Bulldogs shot 55.2 percent from the floor and went 14-of-20 from the free-throw line. The Tigers maintained their lead by shooting 48.1 percent on field goal tries.
West Alabama's bench played very well as it outscored The Citadel's bench 31-18. The Tigers also held the edge in points in the paint by 38-28.Game Notes
