Recap: Valparaiso vs. Oakland
Valparaiso, IN (SportsNetwork.com) - With seven seconds left in regulation and the score tied at 60-60, Clay Yeo buried a 3-pointer that lifted the Valparaiso Crusaders to a 63-60 victory over the Oakland Golden Grizzlies in Horizon League action at the Athletics-Recreation Center.
Yeo finished the game with 12 points and four rebounds off the bench for Valpo (15-11, 7-4 Horizon). Alec Peters led all Crusaders with 13 points in the contest, while LaVonte Dority chipped in 11 with five assists and Bobby Capobianco added 10 points with nine boards. Valpo has won three of its past four games.
Corey Petros and Travis Bader each netted 14 points to lead Oakland (9-17, 4-7). Bader connected on 4-of-12 from 3-point range in the loss, while Petros added seven boards to his stat line. Kahlil Felder chipped in 12 points and five assists for the Grizzlies, who have lost three in a row.
Valpo started the game off on the right foot, connecting on 60.9 percent of its field goal tries in the first half.The Crusaders took a 33-23 lead into the break. Oakland shot just 28.6 percent from the floor in the frame, including 2-of-10 from 3-point distance.
The roles changed in the second half, with the Crusaders hitting just 30.4 percent of their shots while the Grizzlies knocked down 51.9 percent from the field. A Bader 3-pointer with 41 seconds left in the game knotted the score at 60 apiece until Yeo broke the tie with the clinching shot.
