Recap: Wright State vs. Oakland
Dayton, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Miles Dixon and Chrishawn Hopkins each scored 13 points to lead the Wright State Raiders over the Oakland Golden Grizzlies, 76-64, at the Nutter Center to open Horizon League play.
Dixon and Hopkins both came off the bench and combined to shoot 14-of-17 from the free-throw line for the Raiders (9-7, 1-0 HL). Cole Darling added 10 points and seven rebounds for the home team.
Corey Petros scored 16 points on 5-of-10 from the floor for the Golden Grizzlies (5-11, 0-1). Travis Bader and Kahlil Felder contributed 15 and 10 points, respectively.
Both teams struggled to reach their offensive potential in the opening half, with the Raiders slightly edging out the Grizzlies, shooting 38.5 percent to their opponent's 37 percent. At halftime, Wright State claimed a narrow 30-28 advantage.
The Raiders were red-hot in the second half, where they shot a confident 64.7 percent from the field and 21-of-25 at the line. The Grizzlies, at 44 percent from the floor and 10-of-16 at the stripe, could not keep pace, and they trailed by as many as 14 points midway through the latter half.
