Recap: Milwaukee vs. Valparaiso
Milwaukee, WI (SportsNetwork.com) - LaVonte Dority led the way with 19 points as the Valparaiso Crusaders downed the Milwaukee Panthers, 77-62, in Horizon League action at U.S. Cellular Arena.
For the Crusaders (16-11, 8-4 Horizon), Jordan Coleman added a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds, making all five of his field goal attempts on the night. Valpo has won four of its last five games.
Kyle Kelm led all scorers with 24 points for the Panthers (16-10, 6-6), who saw their three-game winning streak snapped. Matt Tiby chipped in with 14 points and eight rebounds in the loss.
Valpo shot 44.4 percent from the field in the first half, including 5-of-12 from beyond the 3-point arc, as the Crusaders took a 34-26 advantage into halftime. Milwaukee struggled in the opening period, making a woeful 24.1 percent of its shots from the field and just 2-of-15 from 3-point distance.
After the break, the Crusaders really found their stroke, connecting on 59.1 percent of their field goal tries, though they did come up empty on all four of their 3-point tries in the half. The Panthers' shooting difficulty continued in the second half, as they make only 38.7 percent of their shots from the floor, missing all but one of their 14 3-point attempts. Leading by just two midway through the second, the Crusaders scored eight straight to take a double-digit lead. The Panthers never got closer than six the rest of the way.
The Crusaders dominated the paint, outscoring the Panthers down low, 38-24. Valpo had the edge on the boards as well, outrebounding Milwaukee, 40-33. The Crusaders won the battle in bench points, 29-7.Game Notes
