Recap: Rider vs. Niagara
Lawrenceville, NJ (SportsNetwork.com) - Jimmie Taylor scored 24 points to lead the Rider Broncs to an 85-83 victory over the Niagara Purple Eagles in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference battle at Alumni Gymnasium.
Kahlil Thomas provided a spark off the bench for Rider (7-5, 3-0 MAAC) as it picked up its second win in a row. Zedric Sadler contributed 12 points and four assists while Anthony Myles chipped in 11 points. Daniel Stewart pulled down a team-high nine rebounds for the Broncs.
The Purple Eagles (4-10, 1-2) lost despite a stellar performance by Antoine Mason, who poured in 31 points on 11-of-21 shooting from the floor. Joe Thomas registered a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds and Marvin Jordan tallied 12 points and five assists for Niagara.
Rider knocked down 43.8 percent of its field goal attempts and 6-of-7 at the free-throw line in the opening 20 minutes en route to a 38-31 halftime lead. The Purple Eagles fell behind after going just 2-of-10 from behind the 3-point line in the first period.
Niagara heated up to sink 52.8 percent of its shots from the floor, including 4-of-9 from beyond the arc in the second half. After allowing the visitors to even the score at 54 with 8:55 left to play, Myles scored a layup that put the Broncs ahead for good. Rider converted 21-of-28 tries at the charity stripe after the intermission to keep the Purple Eagles at bay.
Rider enjoyed a 45-38 edge in the rebounding battle. The Purple Eagles outscored the Broncs, 48-26, in the paint.Game Notes
