Recap: Manhattan vs. Quinnipiac

Riverdale, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Zaid Hearst and Umar Shannon both scored 25 points as the Quinnipiac Bobcats slipped by the Manhattan Jaspers in overtime, 90-86, in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action at Draddy Gym.

Hearst delivered a double-double for the Bobcats (12-7, 7-3 MAAC) as he cleared 10 rebounds, but he wasn't the only one with a big game in the paint for the visitors. Before fouling out, Ike Azotam posted 21 points and 12 rebounds for Quinnipiac as well, while Evan Conti came off the bench to produce 11 points and seven boards.

The Jaspers (14-5, 7-3) were paced by George Beamon with 12 points and 12 rebounds, although he shot just 4-of-14 from the floor as the team bowed for the second time in the last three outings. Rhamel Brown and Michael Alvarado both chipped in 15 points and Shane Richards 12, while Emmy Andujar accounted for eight points and 10 boards.

Manhattan scored the first four points of the afternoon, but the team shot only 32.1 percent from the field and 2-of-9 beyond the arc in the first half, en route to a 35-29 deficit at the break.

In the second half the Jaspers picked up the pace with 56.3 percent accuracy from the floor, making their way back from a 70-60 deficit with 5:33 remaining in regulation. A pair of free throws by Shannon with 21 seconds on the clock locked the score at 77-77 and sent the meeting into overtime.

Unfortunately for the hosts, Quinnipiac scored the first points of the overtime period and never looked back, using a 9-of-12 showing at the free- throw line to secure the win.

One of the top rebounding programs in college basketball, Quinnipiac owned a 50-39 advantage on the glass.
