Recap: Iona vs. Quinnipiac
New Rochelle, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Sean Armand scored a game-high 23 points as the Iona Gaels cruised to a 95-73 victory over the Quinnipiac Bobcats in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action at Hynes Athletics Center.
A.J. English and Tre Bowman each chipped in 20 points for Iona (10-8, 7-2 MAAC). Bowman added eight rebounds and shot a near-perfect 11-of-12 from the free-throw line, while English grabbed seven boards and dished out five assists. Mike Poole and David Laury each contributed 10 points. Iona has won four of its last five games.
Ike Azotam scored 18 points and pulled down 16 rebounds, recording the double- double for Quinnipiac (11-7, 6-3). Umar Shannon netted 15 points, while both Shaq Shannon and Evan Conti tallied 10. The loss ends a two-game Quinnipiac win streak.
Neither team shot exceptionally well in the first half. Iona connected on 37.1 percent from the floor in the first period, and took a 35-26 lead into the intermission. Quinnipiac hit 33.3 percent of its shots in the frame.
The Gaels upped their shooting to 51.6 percent in the second half, and hit 22- of-26 from the free-throw line. The Bobcats shot 41.9 percent from the field in the half.
Iona had the advantage in points off turnovers, 19-4, and in points in the paint, 40-30.Game Notes
