Recap: Niagara vs. Fairfield
Niagara, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Maurice Barrow knocked down 5-of-6 shots behind the 3-point line as he finished with 19 points for a Fairfield squad that captured a 72-66 win over the Niagara Purple Eagles in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action at the Gallagher Center.
Also scoring in double figures for the Stags (6-22, 3-14 MAAC) were Marcus Gilbert and Steven Johnston with 15 and 14 points, respectively, while Amadou Sidibe tallied nine points and 10 rebounds for a team that snapped a three- game slide.
The Purple Eagles (6-22, 3-14) were paced by Antoine Mason with a game-high 22 points, followed by Wesley Myers (17 points), Marcus Ware (11) and Ramone Snowden (10) as the squad's losing streak reached seven games.
Niagara had a hard time finding the basket from all over the floor, shooting only 9-of-30 from the field, including 2-of-7 beyond the arc, and 4-of-13 at the free-throw line in the first half, en route to a 34-24 deficit at the break.
The Purple Eagles appeared to turn it around in the second half with 53.1 percent accuracy from the field, but again the squad had issues at the charity stripe (7-of-12), allowing the visitors to pull away for the victory.
Fairfield, which led by as many as 13 in the second half, finished the night shooting an impressive 11-of-19 behind the 3-point line.Game Notes
