Recap: Fairfield vs. Quinnipiac
Bridgeport, CT (SportsNetwork.com) - Ike Azotam scored 23 points and pulled down nine rebounds to lift the Quinnipiac Bobcats to an 80-72 decision over the Fairfield Stags in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action at Webster Bank Arena.
Zaid Hearst netted 20 points for Quinnipiac (16-8, 11-4 MAAC) as it picked up its fourth consecutive win. Ousmane Drame contributed 17 points and eight boards while Evan Conti and Shaq Shannon scored 10 points each. Shannon also tallied eight rebounds and a pair of steals.
For the Stags (5-21, 2-13), Maurice Barrow poured in 21 points in 22 minutes of action. K.J. Rose added 18 points and seven rebounds, Marcus Gilbert scored 10 points and Amadou Sidibe amassed a game-high 10 boards.
The Bobcats hit on 52 percent of their field goal attempts including a 4-of-7 clip from 3-point range in the opening period. Fairfield went into the intermission trailing, 39-28, after it was limited to 32.2 percent efficiency from the floor in the first half.
The Stags managed to slightly narrow the gap despite missing all seven of their attempts from beyond the arc in the second half. Quinnipiac held on for the victory despite converting only 22-of-34 free-throw attempts after the break.
The Bobcats enjoyed a 40-32 edge in the rebounding battle and outscored Fairfield, 31-18, at the charity stripe in the contest. The Stags came up short although their bench contributed 44 points while Quinnipiac's reserves were held scoreless.Game Notes
