Recap: Siena vs. Fairfield
Albany, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - A layup by Brett Bisping with under 10 seconds remaining proved to be the game winner as the Siena Saints slipped by the Fairfield Stags, 77-75, in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action at the Times Union Center.
Bisping finished with 17 points and eight rebounds for the Saints (11-14, 7-7 MAAC) as they snapped a two-game slide. Rob Poole added 14 points, Evan Hymes 13 off the bench and Lavon Long 10 points for the hosts as well.
The Stags (5-20, 2-12), losers of six of the last seven, were led by Maurice Barrow with a game-high 18 points off the bench, followed by fellow reserve Steve Johnston with 14 before fouling out. Amadou Sidibe pitched in with 12 points, while both Marcus Gilbert and KJ Rose added 11 in the setback.
Both teams shot about 40 percent from the field in the first half, but while Siena was converting 12-of-16 at the free-throw line in the frame, the Stags were hitting three more field goals as they snagged a slim 37-36 advantage at the break.
Fairfield lit up the scoreboard with a sizzling 63.6 percent effort from the floor in the second half, but at the same time the Saints were making good on 55.6 percent to remain in contention. With two minutes left in the contest Siena trailed by four, 75-71, but then held the Stags scoreless the rest of the way.
Fairfield, which led by as many as 16 points in the meeting, was outscored at the charity stripe, 22-12.Game Notes
