Recap: Fairfield vs. Monmouth

Bridgeport, CT (SportsNetwork.com) - Marcus Gilbert and KJ Rose both notched 15 points, leading the Fairfield Stags over the Monmouth Hawks, 60-56, in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference tilt at Webster Bank Arena.

Maurice Barrow scored 11 points for the Stags (5-19, 2-10 MAAC), who snapped out of a five-game losing streak. Amadou Sidibe grabbed 10 rebounds in the victory.

Andrew Nicholas tallied 16 points to lead the Hawks (10-14, 4-9), who have lost their last four. Deon Jones scored 10 points and Tyrone O'Garro grabbed 11 rebounds.

In the first half, the Stags shot 35.7 percent from the field, slightly better than the Hawks' 33.3 percent. The Hawks, however, got to the free-throw line for 10-of-11, and they went into halftime with a 28-27 lead.

The Hawks improved slightly to shoot 35.5 percent from the floor in the second half, but that included just 1-of-6 from beyond the arc. At the other end, the Stags shot 44 percent and also hit 9-of-15 at the line, leading by as many as nine points, with 8:40 to play. Monmouth led by one, with 3:13 left, but with 1:40 on the clock, a Barrow layup erased that lead for good.

The Hawks turned the ball over 17 times in the game which had seven lead changes.
