Recap: Canisius vs. Quinnipiac

Buffalo, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Umar Shannon tallied 26 points as the Bobcats of Quinnipiac pulled out an 88-81 win over the Canisius Golden Griffins in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action at the Koessler Athletic Center.

Zaid Hearst shot only 2-of-9 from the floor, but nailed all but one of his 18 attempts at the free-throw line as he dropped in 21 points for the Bobcats (19-7, 13-4 MAAC), while Ousmane Drame registered a double-double consisting of 14 points and 13 rebounds as the team's win streak reached six in a row.

The Golden Griffs (18-10, 12-5), who had a two-game win streak snapped, were paced by Billy Baron with a game-high 31 points on 12-of-24 shooting from the floor. Chris Manhertz and Chris Perez both contributed 14 points as well.

The visitors shot a mediocre 42.4 percent from the field in the first half, including 4-of-9 behind the 3-point line, but that was still good enough for a solid 42-27 advantage in the scoring column at the break.

In the second half Canisius tried to battle back with 51.2 percent accuracy from the floor, but the deficit was simply too great for the Golden Griffs. It also didn't help that the Bobcats outscored the hosts at the free-throw line in the period, 21-6.

In addition to outscoring Canisius at the charity stripe by a 31-7 margin, Quinnipiac also easily won the rebounding battle, 49-27.
