Recap: Quinnipiac vs. Canisius

Hamden, CT (SportsNetwork.com) - Billy Baron logged 20 points as the Canisius Golden Griffins easily beat the Quinnipiac Bobcats 86-74 in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference tilt at TD Banks Sports Center.

Zach Lewis and Chris Perez each scored in double figures with 17 and 15 points, respectively, with Perez tallying five assists for the Golden Griffins (15-7, 9-2 MAAC), who have won three straight games.

Zaid Hearst had a career-high 33 points for the Bobcats (12-8, 7-4), who have lost two of their last three contests. Ike Azotam added 12 points and nine rebounds and Evan Conti chipped in 11 points and eight assists.

Canisius made 53.3 percent of its field goal tries, including 7-of-12 from 3- point range, in the first frame as they led 41-32 at halftime. Quinnipiac struggled to make just 28.9 percent of its shots from the field.

The Golden Griffins connected on 50 percent of their shots from the floor in the second period and that was good enough to maintain their lead and secure the win. The Bobcats got within two with 13:08 left, but Canisius pulled away by going on a 13-6 run to gain some room.

Despite taking 14 more shots than Canisius, Quinnipiac never led during the game.
