Recap: South Dakota vs. Nebraska Omaha

Vermillion, SD (SportsNetwork.com) - Trey Norris knocked down one of his two free-throw attempts with 1.5 seconds remaining in order to provide the South Dakota Coyotes with a thrilling 87-86 win over the Mavericks of Nebraska Omaha in a Summit League clash at the DakotaDome.

Norris finished the meeting with just seven points, dealing with foul trouble as the Coyotes (11-15, 5-6 Summit) won their second straight outing. Leading the offense for the hosts was Tyler Flack with 21 points, followed by Adam Thoseby with 16, Casey Kasperbauer 14 and Brandon Bos 12 points, the latter adding seven rebounds and five assists as well.

The Mavericks (15-12, 4-7), losers of three straight, were paced by CJ Carter with 19 points, while Mike Rostampour registered a double-double with 18 points and a game-high 11 rebounds before fouling out. Marcus Tyus chipped in 12 points and Devin Patterson 10 and five assists.

On the strength of 55.2 percent shooting from the field in the first half, including 4-of-7 beyond the arc, South Dakota led by as many as 10 points in the period, but had to settle for a 38-35 edge at the break.

In the second half the Coyotes again shot the ball well from the floor (.519) and converted 5-of-7 on the perimeter, but the squad needed the late heroics by Norris to get them over the hump.

South Dakota overcame an unsightly 20 turnovers thanks to a group of reserves that generated a massive 49 points, compared to only 18 for the Omaha bench players.
