Recap: James Madison vs. Delaware
Harrisonburg, VA (SportsNetwork.com) - Devon Saddler poured in 25 points for the Blue Hens as Delaware downed the James Madison Dukes, 78-74, in a Colonial Athletic Association bout at the JMU Convocation Center.
Davon Usher added 21 points and five rebounds for the Blue Hens (10-7, 2-0 CAA) in their fourth consecutive victory. Jarvis Threatt tallied 16 points and four assists while Marvin King-Davis pulled down nine boards.
Andre Nation led JMU (6-11, 1-2) with 22 points on 9-of-11 shooting from the floor. Ron Curry contributed 14 points, five rebounds and four assists while Charles Cooke also netted 14 points. Andrey Semenov and Taylor Bessick both scored 11 points in the setback. Bessick also grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds.
The Dukes took a narrow, 42-40, lead into halftime after they shot 48.6 percent from the field in the opening 20 minutes of the contest. Delaware was limited to only 38.7 percent efficiency from the floor in the first period.
The Blue Hens continued to struggle into the second half and sank only 10- of-31 field goal tries in the period. The visitors made up for their poor shooting from the floor by converting 14-of-21 attempts at the charity stripe and limiting JMU to a 2-of-11 clip from 3-point range. After missing the first attempt of a late trip to the free-throw line, Usher drained his second try to put Delaware ahead by four points to prevent any possibility of a JMU comeback.
Despite the loss, the Dukes held a 49-40 edge in the rebounding battle and outscored the Blue Hens, 34-23, in the paint.Game Notes
