Recap: Saint Peters vs. Canisius
Jersey City, NJ (SportsNetwork.com) - Billy Baron poured in 25 points as the Canisius Golden Griffins held off the Saint Peter's Peacocks, 67-63, in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference joust at the Yanitelli Center.
Baron connected on 4-of-10 shots from beyond the arc and collected five assists and four steals for Canisius (9-5, 3-0 MAAC). Chris Manhertz added 12 points and Chris Perez chipped in 11.
Marvin Dominique had game-highs in points (26) and rebounds (10) but it was not enough for Saint Peter's (4-9. 0-4), which has lost three of four. Desi Washington tallied 14 points, Chris Burke contributed 12 off the bench and Trevis Wyche had seven assists.
Canisius hit 50 percent of its shots from the floor, including 8-of-15 from beyond the arc, to claim a 43-22 lead at halftime.
After collecting only seven field goals in the first period, the Peacocks equaled that number in 3-pointers alone in the second frame. The shooting turnaround allowed them to pull to within a single point with under five minutes to play. However, Canisius was able to hold on by hitting 3-of-7 from the floor and 3-of-3 from the charity stripe in the final minutes.
