Recap: Loyola Marymount vs. Pepperdine
Los Angeles, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Stacy Davis scored a game-high 27 points and added 12 rebounds as the Pepperdine Waves held on down the stretch to defeat the Loyola Marymount Lions, 72-69, in a West Coast Conference tilt at Gersten Pavilion.
Malcolm Brooks chipped in with 15 points and four rebounds for Pepperdine (15-13, 8-8 WCC). Malte Kramer added 12 points, connecting on 4-of-7 from 3- point range in the win. The Waves ended a three-game losing skid with the victory.
Anthony Ireland scored 26 points to pace Loyola Marymount (11-17, 3-13). Ireland connected on 11-of-17 from the field, and 4-of-8 from 3-point distance. Evan Payne contributed 16 points in the loss, which was the seventh in a row for the Lions.
Pepperdine came out hot in the first half, netting 56 percent of its shot attempts, including 5-of-12 from deep, and took a 35-31 lead into the intermission. Loyola Marymount hit 38.2 percent of its tries in the frame.
The Waves dropped a bit in the second half, connecting on 44.8 percent of their field goal tries, again going 5-of-12 from beyond the arc. The Lions increased their shooting accuracy to 43.8 percent, but could only shave one point off the Pepperdine lead in the period.
Pepperdine had a significant advantage in bench points, 47-6, and connected on three more 3-pointers in the contest, 10-7. Loyola Marymount won the battle in points in the paint, 36-28.Game Notes
