Recap: Davidson vs. Elon
Davidson, NC (SportsNetwork.com) - Lucas Troutman scored a team-high 28 points and pulled down 12 rebounds for the double-double as the Elon Phoenix escaped an 87-85 overtime bout with the Davidson Wildcats in Southern Conference action at Belk Arena.
Troutman shot 11-of-21 from the field. Ryley Beaumont netted 15 points and grabbed seven rebounds, while Jack Isenbarger came off the bench to score 15 for Elon (10-9, 3-1 SoCon). Sebastian Koch chipped in 13 points and nine rebounds, and Austin Hamilton added 10 points. The Phoenix have won three consecutive games.
De'Mon Brooks scored 28 points and secured 10 rebounds for the double-double for Davidson (7-11, 3-1). Tom Droney contributed 15 points, Tyler Kalinoski scored 13 and Brian Sullivan netted 12. The loss snaps a three-game win streak for the Wildcats.
Elon shot an impressive 53.1 percent from the floor in the first half, while Davidson hit 46.7 percent of its shots in the frame. The teams went into the half knotted at 37-37.
Elon's shooting percentage dropped to 48.3 in the second half, as did Davidson's to 42.9 percent. Each team netted 39 points in the second half, and were deadlocked, 76-76, at the end of regulation.
In overtime, the Phoenix hit 3-of-6 shots from the floor, and went 5-of-6 from the free-throw line. The Wildcats shot 36.4 percent in the extra period without a trip to the charity stripe.
Elon outscored Davidson in bench points, 19-9, and won the battle on the boards, 46-32. The Wildcats forced 13 Phoenix turnovers while only turning the ball over three times themselves.Game Notes
