Recap: Gonzaga vs. BYU

Spokane, WA (SportsNetwork.com) - Kevin Pangos dropped in 24 points and handed out seven assists as the Gonzaga Bulldogs posted an 84-69 win over the BYU Cougars in a West Coast Conference battle at the McCarthey Athletics Center.

Sam Dower contributed 18 points for the Bulldogs (18-3, 8-1 WCC) and both Gary Bell and David Stockton with 14, the latter also handing out seven assists as the program posted a fourth straight win and the eighth in the last nine outings overall.

The Cougars (13-9, 5-4) were paced by Tyler Haws with 23 points, while Kyle Collinsworth pitched in with 13 and seven rebounds as the team bowed for the second time in as many games. Coming up a rebound shy of a double-double for the visitors was Eric Mika who tallied 12 points.

Coming off a triple-overtime loss to Portland on the road just two nights ago, the Cougars were a bit sluggish coming out of the gate, particularly behind the 3-point line where they converted just 1-of-7 in the first half. Hitting just 4-of-8 at the free-throw line didn't help matters as BYU fell behind by two at the break, 35-33.

After converting 41.2 percent from the floor in the first half, the Cougars jumped to 50.0 percent after intermission, but that was still not match for Gonzaga as the host dropped a sizzling 64.3 percent, including 6-of-9 beyond the arc, as it cruised to the double-digit win.

The Bulldogs finished the night with a perfect 12-of-12 performance at the free-throw line and 10-of-22 beyond the arc, which explains how they got away with clearing a mere three offensive rebounds.

Gonzaga, which continues to lead in the conference standings, entered the meeting having won 21 straight home dates.
