Recap: San Francisco vs. BYU
San Francisco, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Led by 19 points from Kyle Collinsworth, the BYU Cougars took down the San Francisco Dons, 83-76, in a West Coast Conference tussle at War Memorial Gymnasium.
For the Cougars (12-7, 4-2 WCC) Skyler Halford added 18 points, Matt Carlino finished with 17, Tyler Haws scored 15 and Eric Mika chipped in with 11.
Cole Dickerson led all scorers with 26 points for the Dons (11-8, 4-3) while pulling down 14 rebounds, Avry Holmes scored 16, Kruize Pinkins finished with 14 and Mark Tollefsen had 11 points.
USF shot 43.8 percent from the field to start the game, including 2-of-4 from 3-point range, as the Dons led at the break, 37-34. BYU made 42.4 percent of its field goal tries and 4-of-8 from beyond the arc in the half but was outscored at the free-throw line by a 7-2 margin.
After intermission, the Cougars got hot from the field, connecting on 55 percent of their field goal tries. They also dominated at the charity stripe in the half, outscored the Dons, 26-12 at the free-throw line. The Dons shot 42.9 percent from the floor in the second half. BYU took the lead for good on a Mika layup with 14:29 left to play and were able to hold on from that point to secure the victory.
BYU forced 16 turnovers and converted them into 19 points, while committing just 10 miscues of their own. The Dons had the advantage in the paint, outscoring the Cougars, 38-24.Game Notes
