Recap: Niagara vs. USC Upstate
Kent, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Torrey Craig scored 26 points and nearly had a double-double in leading the USC Upstate Spartans to an 83-74 victory over the Niagara Purple Eagles as part of the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic at the M.A.C. Center.
Craig added nine rebounds for USC Upstate (2-2). Ty Greene tacked on 15 points and Jodd Maxey brought in 13 rebounds to go with nine points for the Spartans, who face Kent State in the next leg of the three-day event.
Antoine Mason poured in 31 points and Marvin Jordan added 11 for Niagara (1-2), which takes on event host Kent State next.
The Spartans dominated in the first half, shooting at a 55.2 percent clip while knocking down eight 3-pointers to take a 47-28 lead at the break. Niagara missed all nine of its shots from beyond the arc and shot just 30.8 percent overall in the first 20 minutes.
After halftime the Spartans failed to notch another 3-pointer and shot just 40.5 percent from the floor. However the Purple Eagles could not take advantage, only connecting on 37.5 percent of their own shots.
USC Upstate outscored Niagara, 34-22, in the paint. The Purple Eagles had the edge in points off turnovers (22-16).Game Notes
