Recap: Northern Colorado vs. North Dakota
Greeley, CO (SportsNetwork.com) - Derrick Barden notched a double-double with 18 points and 14 rebounds to lead the Northern Colorado Bears past North Dakota, 84-66, at the Butler-Hancock Sports Pavilion.
Barden shot 7-of-11 from the field for the Bears (7-3, 1-0 Big Sky) and 4-of-4 at the free-throw line. Tim Huskisson, Dominique Lee and Tevin Svihovec each contributed 13 points.
Jaron Nash netted a game-high 22 points for North Dakota (3-8, 0-1), shooting 10-of-14 from the floor. Troy Huff added 13 points as the team's only other double-digit scorer.
The Bears got off to a strong start, shooting 66.7 percent from the floor in the first 20 minutes of play, while UND shot just 38.9 percent. The Bears had their largest lead of the game, by 21 points, midway through the first half, and went into halftime up 46-32.
The second half was similarly one-sided, with the Bears shooting 52.4 percent from the field to UND's 34.5 percent, as the latter team was unable to mount enough offense to get back into the game.
North Dakota struggled to find its perimeter shooting touch, hitting just 5- of-21 from 3-point range. UNC out-rebounded its opponent heavily, 41-25, and outscored UND 40-32 in the paint and 12-2 on fast-break points.Game Notes
