Recap: Kent State vs. Cleveland State
Kent, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Bryn Forbes and Sebastian Douglas scored 14 points apiece as the Cleveland State Vikings defeated the Kent State Golden Flashes, 78-70, in non-conference action at the M.A.C. Center.
Forbes added five assists to his performances, while Douglas pulled down seven rebounds. Trey Lewis and Anton Grady each tallied 12 points and Marling Mason added 10 points for Cleveland State (8-6), which has won four of five.
Derek Jackson led all scorers with 18 points for the Golden Flashes (9-3), who lost at home for just the second time all season. Mark Henniger and Darren Goodson each scored 14 points in the loss. Henniger pulled down eight rebounds while Goodson recorded six.
Despite getting outshot from the field in the first half, 50 percent to 47.8 percent, Cleveland State carried a 30-28 lead into intermission thanks to a 5- of-8 showing from 3-point range.
The game was tied 50-50 in the second half, but a 14-4 Cleveland State run gave the Vikings a 10-point lead with 5:13 left to play. Eight straight points put Kent State within three with 3:02 to play, but the Vikings hit 9-of-10 free-throw attempts down the stretch for the win.
Cleveland State shot 54.3 percent from the floor and hit 21-of-24 free-throw attempts in the game. Kent State shot 40.7 percent, including 7-of-27 (25.9 percent) from beyond the 3-point arc.Game Notes
