Recap: Coll of Charleston vs. Kent State
Charleston, SC (SportsNetwork.com) - Kris Brewer led all scorers with 20 points, including the game-winning three-point play with 1:03 remaining to lift the Kent State Golden Flashes to a 58-54 victory over the College of Charleston Cougars at TD Arena.
Brewer shot 7-of-13 from the field for Kent State (9-2). Darren Goodson came off the bench to register 10 points, while Derek Jackson hauled in nine rebounds.
For Charleston (5-7), Willis Hall tallied 14 points and nine rebounds, while Anthony Thomas put up 13 points and eight boards.
It was a painfully slow start for each team. Kent State shot 5-of-25 from the field and 5-of-10 from the free-throw line, while Charleston was just 6-of-24 from the floor and 4-of-13 from the stripe. The Flashes carried a 17-16 lead into intermission.
The teams continued to battle back and forth in the second half, and with 1:31 to play, Canyon Berry made a pair of free throws for the Cougars to tie the score at 50 before the Flashes answered on their next possession with Brewer's game-winning bucket and ensuing free throw. Kent State shot 3-of-4 from the charity stripe over the final 13 seconds the seal the victory.
Charleston was ultimately done in by 21 turnovers, which turned into 19 points for Kent State.Game Notes
