Recap: Central Mich vs. Northern Ill
Mount Pleasant, MI (SportsNetwork.com) - Braylon Rayson scored 19 points as the Central Michigan Chippewas held on to defeat the Northern Illinois Huskies, 70-67, in a Mid-American Conference battle at McGuirk Arena.
Austin Stewart accounted for 16 points and Chris Fowler 15 and eight assists, although the latter shot just 3-of-12 from the floor and 6-of-12 at the free- throw line for the Chippewas (10-16, 3-11 MAC) as they won a second straight decision.
The Huskies (12-14, 6-8), losers of two of the last three, were paced by Aaric Armstead with 19 points, followed by Darrell Bowie and Daveon Balls with 14 and 10 points, respectively. Jordan Threloff contributed with 10 rebounds and eight points in the setback.
NIU led by three early in the meeting, but the team eventually shot only 7- of-20 from the floor in the first half, including 1-of-4 behind the 3-point line, leaving the Huskies with a 32-25 deficit at the break.
The Chippewas went from converting only 3-of-7 at the free-throw line through the first 20 minutes to 16-of-23 in the second half, securing the three-point win in the process.
Northern Illinois easily won the rebounding battle, 37-22, but at the same time turned the ball over 18 times on the day.Game Notes
